How Exact Age is Calculated
Age calculation seems simple but has some nuances that most people are unaware of.
The standard method:
Age is calculated by counting the number of completed years from birth date to the target date. Then remaining months are counted, then remaining days.
Example:
Date of birth: 15 March 1990 Today's date: 10 December 2025
Step 1: Years = 2025 − 1990 = 35 (but since March is past December, we subtract 1 more) Actually: Dec 2025 is after March — so 35 years is correct. Wait — we check if the birthday has passed in the current year. 10 Dec 2025 has not reached 15 March 2026 — so full years = 35.
Step 2: Months from 15 March to 10 December = 8 months (April, May, June, July, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov = 8 months, but days not complete yet — so we calculate days of the last partial month)
Step 3: Days from 15 November to 10 December = 25 days
Result: 35 years, 8 months, 25 days
The February 29th case:
People born on February 29 (leap day) celebrate their official birthday on February 28 in non-leap years for most legal purposes. Our calculator handles this correctly.
What Do the Life Stats Mean?
Heartbeats: The average human heart beats approximately 72 times per minute. Multiplying total minutes lived by 72 gives an estimate of total heartbeats since birth. A 30-year-old has had approximately 1.1 billion heartbeats.
Days spent sleeping: On average humans spend about 33% of their life sleeping. A 30-year-old has slept approximately 10 full years.
Meals eaten: Assuming 3 meals per day, by age 30 you have eaten approximately 32,850 meals.
Earth orbits: The Earth completes one full orbit around the Sun in 365.25 days — one year. So your age in years equals the number of Earth orbits you have completed since birth.
Western, Chinese and Vedic Astrology — What is the Difference?
Western Zodiac (Sun Signs): Based on the position of the Sun at the time of birth, divided into 12 signs across the calendar year. Each sign lasts approximately 30 days. Western zodiac is the most commonly known globally — Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Chinese Zodiac (Shengxiao): Based on a 12-year cycle, with each year associated with an animal. The 12 animals in order are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Your Chinese zodiac is determined by your birth year, not birth month.
